As this half term draws to a close and we start to look forward to some better weather, I wanted to update you on some developments at Chaucer School that will affect your children from next half term.
We would like to welcome all Year 11 students to our revision sessions which will be held over the February half-term. Please see dates and times below for the sessions.
A message from the School Aged Immunisation Service:
We’ve already visited your school, and to ensure all students who wish to receive the HPV vaccination, we’ve organised a drop-in clinic during the half-term break and outside of school hours.
Retrieval Practice is a powerful study tool that is important in the act of revision. It helps strengthen memory by pulling information out of your head rather than cramming information in.
Please see link below for a letter from Cllr Dawn Dale focusing on the importance of being in school for all children across Sheffield as concerns around safety continue.
In light of last week's tragic death at All Saints Catholic High School, South Yorkshire Police (SYP) are requesting that all schools share the attached letter and advice links for parents and carers relating to knife crime.

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 9 students,
We will attend school to vaccinate Y9 students for the Booster dose of DTP Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio along with Meningococcal ACWY. We will also offer the HPV Human Papilloma Vaccine if they did not receive this in Y8.
Please copy this link https://www.sheffieldchildrensvaccinations.co.uk/Forms/DTP to complete the consent form for DTP and MENACWY. The option to consent or decline the vaccinations is at the end of the questionnaire so please complete this even if you do not want your child to have the vaccinations.
Please copy this link https://www.sheffieldchildrensvaccinations.co.uk/Forms/HPV to complete the consent form for HPV, but only if your child did not have HPV last year.
If you consented for HPV last year but your child did not get vaccinated, we will vaccinate them using the consent submitted last year.

The brain can only focus deeply and concentrate for a short period of time before it becomes fatigued. Therefore, the longer a child studies for without a break, the more inefficient they become.
Chaucer school has supported all students with the ability to loan uniform where it has been missing since September this academic year. All students have had a significant amount of time whilst being supported to ensure they have their own uniform and are wearing it to school each day.
One of the things that can cause an interruption to your child’s study flow, is not having everything they need when they begin their period of study.
Making sure that your child gets adequate rest and sleep every night is essential for not only a healthy lifestyle but it also plays a major part in the learning process.
We were proud to welcome MP Gill Furniss to Chaucer today to tour the school and meet with some staff and students. We talked about the improvements seen at the school in the last couple of years, and about further developments in the pipeline. As an ex-student of Chaucer herself, Gill recognised a couple of corridors in school but mostly enjoyed seeing students working hard at learning, and being proud of the school. We look forward to welcoming Gill back for an event later in the year.
Our Year 11 Mock exams will be starting on Monday 27th January 2025.
