Higher education activities and the NCOP programme

Higher education outreach activities are aimed at showing students the higher education opportunities available at college and university, and how completing a higher education course can benefit their job prospects. The activities may also improve students' attainment. The activities are being run by HeppSY, Hepp, Sheffield Hallam University, The University of Sheffield and other approved partners.

The National Collaborative Outreach Programme's (NCOP) aim is to increase the number of young people progressing to university and higher education by 2020. The HeppSY team and their partners are being funded by the Office for Students (OfS) to undertake outreach activities with some young people at your child's school to let them know about the benefits of going into higher education. Your child may have the opportunity to take part in activities such as university campus visits, summer schools, finance workshops and other higher education opportunities

We have reached the last day of the academic year and it is currently raining!

It has been an action packed year, with a positive outcome from our work with OFSTED, the Department for Education and Her Majesty’s Inspectors.

Preparation for new school year September 2019

In readiness for September please read the information below to ensure that you and your child/ren are fully prepared for the new school year.

Students will attend school on Tuesday 3rd September between 8.30am and 12.20pm

Students must attend from 8.30am to 12.20pm. During this time staff will check their readiness for school, including equipment and uniform checks. They will issue new planners and timetables, advise students of changes to policies and processes for the new school year and make sure that students are ready for the new school year. Essential information regarding behaviour, SEN and emotional health & wellbeing will also be shared on this day. A review of pastoral support has been undertaken to provide greater capacity for supporting students and students will be made aware of who their identified lead person will be – this may not be their existing Year Manager.

Students wanting lunch on that day must order a grab bag on arrival into school.

Students not attending on Tuesday 3rd September will receive an unauthorised absence mark.

Attendance & Punctuality

This is a key element in our and your child’s success and will be a primary focus for all staff throughout the year. The local authority is very clear that it is a parents/carers’ responsibility to get their child to school regularly and on time. It is also your child’s responsibility to catch up on any work missed during absence. We will continue to work with parents/carers to support good school attendance and you will find that more staff may contact you regarding your child’s absence and the impact that this has on their learning. We will share more information with you regarding attendance and you can also access your child’s

attendance live on the MCAS (My Child At School) app either via the school website or direct from your phone.

School Uniform

I am keen that we reiterate our high expectations for school uniform. Since we moved to blazer, tie and smart trousers/skirts a number of visitors have commented on how smart and professional our students look. It is important that we continue to drive this element forward as it helps to prepare our young people for the expectations placed on them in a work environment.

The school uniform expectations are currently shown in your child’s planner, on the website and in the school uniform policy document available from the office, however they are also summarised here:

Footwear – plain black leather or leather look footwear – no coloured logos, no fabric inserts, no gold bars or buckles

• Skirts – with a waistband, no clingy, skin tight or “tube” style skirts. Must be no more than 2/3 inches above the knee

• Trousers – with a waistband, tailored, no skin tight, no leggings or jeggings

• Plain black knee length or ankle socks, plain black or flesh covered tights

Please do check the uniform policy before you buy and if you do have any questions or are unsure whether something meets our policy please do call in and ask at the office.

Students’ uniform will be checked when they come into school on the Tuesday as part of their preparation for the new school year and they will have the opportunity to correct any incorrect uniform. Students who remain in incorrect uniform after this time will be placed in our pre exclusion room until resolved. The equipment requirements are contained in the school planner and on the school website. The school shop will be open on Tuesday 3rd September for students who have not yet got all their equipment and prices are very reasonable.

What is 0 - 12 Triple P?

0 - 12 Triple P has been developed for parents of children aged 0 - 12. Because it’s based on Triple P’s proven parenting strategies, it gives you ways to deal with the kinds of behaviour problems and issues that can make family life stressful.


0-12 Triple P is 7 sessions, 4 x 2 hours group sessions, 2 x telephone sessions and one last group session 

0 - 12 Triple P helps you:

  • think about what’s causing any issues and set goals
  • encourage behaviour you like and build positive relationships
  • Deal with misbehaviour and plan ahead
