On the 26th Of September the Year 7 Boys new football team were invited to the Sainsbury's School Games: Sheffield Y7 5-a-side Football Tournament at Concord Sports Centre. They competed against 9 other schools in Sheffield including Parkwood and Ecclesfield. Two teams were entered with 16 boys in total. Chaucer B team performed really well in the group stages and showed really good character lead by captain and talisman Callan Oakes-Perry. Unfortunately they were in a tough group and did not progress to the finals. However showed great sportsmanship throughout.

football2Chaucer A on the other hand won every game in their group and scored more than 15 goals in the group stages. They progressed to the final against Meadowhead. It was a very tight game with Chaucer winning 1-0 in the final with a cracking goal from Tony Yogane. Our team had the majority of shots in the final and were the dominant team throughout. Captain Dylan Rhodes was very effective defensively in all games due to his calm head even in the final. Striker Tyler Rhodes who was our leading goal scorer on the day (Billy Sharp/Gary Hooper eat your heart out).  A trophy will be arriving to the school next week courtesy of Sainsbury's.

All the boys involved were a credit to Chaucer showing resilience, responsibility and respect throughout the tournament. I am really looking forward to a great season ahead and hopefully more silverware for our Year 7 team.
