Here at Chaucer all students are offered the chance to learn a new language. Our dynamic, multi-sensory approach to language teaching makes learning French engaging, challenging and rewarding.

KS3 French

Year 7 and Year 8
In Year 7 and Year 8 students learn a wide range of vocabulary through  a range of topics including ‘Holidays’, ‘Sports’ and ‘Eating Out’. There is a large focus on literacy and quality of language as well as an emphasis on performance, confidence and oracy. By the end of Year 8 most students can share facts, give and justify opinions and narrate short stories in French.

Year 9
In Year 9 we seek to offer all students the chance to opt-in to GCSE languages. To best prepare them for this we teach all Year 9 students a ‘GCSE foundation’ course where we focus on the skills needed to be successful in Y10 and Y11.

These include;

  • Writing
  • Role Play
  • Translation
  • Reading authentic material
  • Listening

To further engage with the French speaking world students in Year 9 are also offered the opportunity to write to a French penpal.
